Explore Original Greenbay Cafe

As someone who enjoys introducing neighborhood gems, I often point people toward Original Greenbay Cafe, a cozy breakfast spot tucked along Green Bay Road at 568 Green Bay Rd, Winnetka, IL 60093, that captures the charm of a classic local café while delivering consistently satisfying food and service. The space itself is small and intimate, giving it a warm, welcoming feel that makes it especially appealing for a relaxed morning meal, though its popularity means tables can fill up quickly even on weekdays. Breakfast is clearly the star here, with a menu that balances familiar comfort dishes and more distinctive options. One standout that often gets attention is the artichoke omelette, which offers a flavorful twist on a breakfast staple and showcases the kitchen’s willingness to go beyond the ordinary. Coffee is another strong point, served hot and well-prepared, making it easy to linger over conversation. Service is a defining feature of the experience, with staff known for being attentive, friendly, and efficient, helping meals arrive promptly without feeling rushed. The atmosphere remains calm and cozy, ideal for catching up with friends, enjoying a quiet solo breakfast, or starting the day on an unhurried note. While some dishes may lean toward brighter, fruit-forward flavors that not everyone prefers, the overall menu encourages return visits out of curiosity and confidence in the quality. The combination of quick service, thoughtfully prepared food, and a genuinely welcoming environment makes Original Greenbay Cafe feel like the kind of place locals return to again and again, not for spectacle, but for the simple pleasure of a well-made breakfast in a comfortable setting.

Lovely little place to come and enjoy breakfast. The artichoke omelette was really something. Good coffee. We didn't like the swedish pancakes much because the fruit was very acidic. We will come back though, I'm curious about the rest of the menu items. They offer great service!

Lovely little place. Good food and service. It is small, though. We were lucky to get a table at 11:30 on a Monday.

Had brunch at the Original Greenbay Cafe in Winnetka a few Sundays back. It is a no nonsense old school diner with a relaxed welcoming vibe. I went with the Mediterranean Omelette. The eggs were spot on and loaded with fresh veggies full of flavor. The home fries were excellent, crisp on the outside and soft inside. The coffee was hot, strong, and kept coming. Service was top notch, fast, friendly, and on point without trying too hard. The place has a lived in charm with plenty of little things to catch your eye while you wait. A solid spot for a real meal without the fluff.

From the minute I walked in here and saw their charming interior space I sensed that this was going to be the best diner in the Chicagoland area. When I saw the fresh creative menu I knew the food was going to be fantastic and when I tasted the food (which came quickly) my instincts were confirmed! This place is GREAT. Add the sweet friendly service and this place rules!! I’m still here eating but can’t wait to come back!
